I have been working in the field of special education and children's mental health for 15 year and have seen how stressful it can be for children and their families and teachers to help students with LDs succeed.
Playback Theatre gave these stories a voice and a forum that both elevated and simplified... distilled into the essence of the struggle, pain, and joy of success. This medium joined us in our frustration and our celebration and allowed participants to share and affirm each other instead of the blaming and doubting we often feel when working together. Playback connected our different experiences and perspectives and instead of being separated by our feelings of pain and frustration, we were joined together because after all: we are all experiencing these emotions, just from different places. It enabled us to understand and empathize while acknowledging the raw emotions - a powerful experience.
